William “Billy” Klaess believes there is always room for improvement, personally and professionally. He works tirelessly to deliver the best results for his clients and conducts diligent corporate investigations, aggressively tackling problems and providing innovative solutions.
Mr. Klaess was part of the legal team working in one of the largest corporate compliance monitorships in U.S. history as part of Department of Justice, Bureau of Industry and Security (“BIS”), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (“OFAC”) settlement agreements. In connection with this monitorship, he assisted a foreign multinational technology company in overhauling and developing its export control compliance program and manual to ensure it did not reoffend and violate export controls and economic sanctions laws administered by BIS and OFAC. He uses this experience to counsel clients on a variety of global trade issues, and in conducting internal corporate investigations.
Before joining Torres Trade Law, Mr. Klaess was an attorney at a commercial litigation firm in Dallas, Texas. In his free time, Mr. Klaess enjoys exercising, reading, and writing science fiction and fantasy, and going for walks with his wife and their two Yorkies.
Mr. Klaess attended Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, where he was a member of the International Law Society and VanSickle Family Clinic. He graduated magna cum laude from Texas Christian University, receiving B.A.s in History, with departmental honors, and Spanish Language.
Mr. Klaess is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
